Vegetables

We grow a variety of vegetables, and while some can be hard to find at your local grocery store, all are near impossible to beat for freshness. Our crops are sustainably and naturally cultivated without the use of chemical pesticides or herbicides or synthetic fertilizers which has been our preferred growing method for 20+ years. One of our goals, in addition to growing beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables, is to improve soil health and viability with every growing season.

2022 vegetable CSA (Community supported agriculture)

What is it and how does it work?  We are offering a limited number of Vegetable CSA shares ( Community Supported Agriculture) for the 2023 season. Once a week, at a predetermined pick up location, a veggie box will be prepared for each subscription. Each box will include 7-10 crops plus seasonal herbs. All subscriptions will be prepaid before the season starts.

Before partnering with Overflow Farm in this venture, it is important to understand the potential risks and benefits to avoid disappoints by unmet expectations. Hopefully, 2023 will be a great growing season, but there are things beyond human control, i. e. the weather, that can mess with farm plans.

The
LocalHarvest website includes this helpful information on CSAs.
There is an important concept woven into the CSA model that takes the arrangement beyond the usual commercial transaction. That is the notion of shared risk: in most CSAs, members pay up front for the whole season and the farmers do their best to provide an abundant box of produce each week. If things are slim, members are not typically reimbursed. The result is a feeling of "we're in this together". On some farms the idea of shared risk is stronger than others, and CSA members may be asked to sign a policy form indicating that they agree to accept without complaint whatever the farm can produce.
Many times, the idea of shared risk is part of what creates a sense of community among members, and between members and the farmers. If a hailstorm takes out all the peppers, everyone is disappointed together, and together cheer on the winter squash and broccoli.
