Long before I started growing flowers for market, and even before I had children, I had a glass blowing business with my husband. We took orders for our work at the New York Gift Show 2X a year (back in the day!) and had a client list that included Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Gumps of San Francisco, Henri Bendell, and museum stores across the country. We even had a design contract with Dansk for a while. When our third son was born, I put that business on the back burner so that I could focus on our family. It was a sacrifice, but something that I will never regret.
Since we moved to Dillon, I’ve had opportunity to blow glass a few times again. Most recently I got to blow glass with my husband Michael, our daughter Charlie, and a family friend who just opened a hot glass studio. It’s been so much fun and such a blessing, and I think it’s been mutually beneficial, which is the best part. Since it’s the Christmas season and a great way to get back into blowing glass is to make ornaments, Michael and I did a run of ornaments recently. These are some of the results.
We are working to have our own shop again in the near future. We hope to have handblown glass offerings from time to time in the interim.
