Meet the Growers

Our Story: the very very very very short version

Picture
Hi!  I'm Elizabeth Walters, the (co)owner and gardener/designer here at Overflow Farm. My husband and partner Michael heads up the building projects and brainstorms with me.

Having grown mostly food crops over 25 years for our family, I started growing flowers for market af
ter relocating to Montana in 2020. Improving our clay soil with each growing season (because there is no other option), we endeavor to bring the beauty and fragrance of sustainably grown flowers to you (if you are in our local marketplace).

Our flowers

We try to grow the loveliest, most fragrant flowers we are able to. Each year we add/delete crops as we figure out what grows best in our location.

We use manure, compost, and natural amendments and fertilizers to grow plants/flowers that are free of toxic pesticides and herbicides--safe for us to grow, and safe for you to have in your home/business.

Our design choices

As a 'floral designer', it is  important to me to utilize non-toxic, sustainable floristry techniques in addition to non-toxic, sustainable growing practices whenever possible. Because of that, I exclude the use of floral foam in my design tool box, opting instead for more sustainable materials.

Why Locally Grown Flowers?

  1. Locally grown flowers are the freshest of fresh cut flowers.
  2. Local flowers - in general- are grown using more sustainable and natural practices (than flowers flown in from other countries) which is better for the health of the grower, the health of the customer, and the health of the environment.
  3. Buying local flowers helps provide jobs and income to local farmers and floral designers.
  4. Buying local flowers helps support our local ecosystem and pollinators, providing food to the bees, butterflies, and birds.
  5. Buying local flowers provides a way for the customer to delight in a broader range of blooms more specific to their region and current season, cultivating a unique floral bouquet that is more reflective of their local geographical area and time of the year.
